The obverse of the Silver American Eagle features the original Adolph  A. Weinman 1916 “Walking Liberty” design found on the American silver half dollars. Lady Liberty marches to the coin’s left. Her right arm reaches towards the rising sun with the American flag waving behind her in the background. She also bears a bounty of olive and oak branches in her other arm.

The coin’s reverse displays John Mercanti’s updated United States national seal. This illustration displays a bald eagle with its wings spread wide. It holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other to symbolize the “strength through peace” US mentality. Hanging from its beak is a banner that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. Its chest bears a shield emblazoned with the US flag, and 13 stars shine above the eagle’s head as a reference to the original colonies.
